Adsorptive Removal of Methylene Blue Dye Using Biodegradable Superabsorbent Hydrogel Polymer Composite Incorporated with Activated Charcoal

Hydrogels have attracted great attention as good adsorbents due to their extraordinary water retention capacity, unique hydrophilic nature, biocompatibility, and abundance in availability. In this work, a superabsorbent polymer (SAP) hydrogel its composite were synthesized, with the introduction of activated charcoal (SAP-AC) for deep removal ecotoxic organic dye methylene blue (MB). The formation was confirmed by FTIR analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed appearance porous microstructure incorporation AC. A continuous upflow column set up, adsorption parameters optimized using an experimental Doehlert uniform array design. residual concentration MB analyzed UV-Vis spectrophotometry at 665 nm (λmax). data also discussed terms kinetics isotherm models. Accordingly, followed pseudo second-order better fits Freundlich isotherm, suggesting chemisorption mechanism multilayer system. maximum capacity 202.84 mg g−1 (96.96%) SAP 213.2 (99.48%) SAP-AC. present study proved that synthesized has activity selectivity can be effectively used wastewater treatment.
